DNA and Hispanics

Dell Sanchez
Since that day in the spring of 1996, I have been on a never ending journey. My journey includes millions of people just like me that are Hispanic or Latino but happen to be the descendants of secret Jews of Spain. Our forefathers endured a very bloody history as well as an expulsion out of the very land our own ancestors founded during the times of King David and King Solomon.”

Dr. Bennett Greenspan, a DNA expert said a few years ago at the NYC Harvard Club that DNA is a science built on “Guilt by association.” But how is it that so many Hispanic/Latinos in the US have the same DNA as self-proclaimed Jews and aren’t considered as Jews?
The major difference is in the term, “self-proclaimed.” The fact is that Hispanic/Latinos lost trace of their ancestral ties to their Jewish forefathers. Self-proclaimed Jews never lost their Jewish ties or were never forced to convert to another religion such as Catholicism during Inquisitions that lasted hundreds of years in Spain, Portugal, Mexico and throughout Latin America.
I’ve discovered that self-proclaimed Jews either practice Judaism or their parents or grandparents did. Thus, persons who claim to be Jews identify their Jewishness according to their religious affiliation. In other words, they identify themselves as Jews by their faith rather than by their blood or ancestry.

I’ve also discovered that a Sephardic Anusim Jew has to go back a few hundred years to find that they are descendants of the Inquisition. The problem is that DNA tests only reveal ancestors a few generations back-but not to the center of the ‘long holocausts’ of the Inquisitions. However, new, digitized genealogies coupled with onomastics (the art and science of surnames), have trampolined on DNA in order to track back hundreds of years of ancestries.
Therefore, I recommend Hispanic/Latinos with Sephardic Jewish roots who want to be identified as a Sephardic Anusim Jew make sure you spell this out on your DNA test forms. If you already took a test, call the lab right now and tell them you need to include that you’re a Sephardic Anusim Jew. Forget including your religious affiliation. Otherwise, extremely few of our people will be acknowledged as a Jewish person. Why? Because our forefathers hid this secret for so long that they forgot what the secret was!
Happy DNAing,
